Express Gourmet-multi Food Processor

Product Review

I recently received my Express Gourmet. First, I should say that you get what you pay for, even at these low prices. I went for the cheapest deal, from Mr. Food dot com, and was disappointed to discover--too late--that he sells the basic processor and accessories separately. To add insult to injury, they're not displayed on the same catalog page, even if you put them in his search engine. For $10.95 + S/H, I got the bowl, metal blade, whipping blade, egg separator/top plug, and herb spinner. I wanted the complete set with slicer, grater, etc, so I sent for another from a different company. (I would've ordered from YOUR outlet but I'm in another country.)

I originally wanted the E.G. for making ice cream. The freezer bowl to my $60.00 electric Lello Il Gelataio had sprung a leak after four years, from the salt solution eating through the steel canister, and I was hesitant to invest in another one of that type, since most have the same bowl. I thought it would be nifty just to put the whole unit in the freezer and just turn it occassionally like an old fashioned ice cream freezer. The E.G. had a good paddle for it, I noticed. It did make decent ice cream, too. I was pleased not only with the quality (about the same as the Lello), but the QUANTITY--hard to get in cheaper machines--which was excellent: two quarts! Most machines make only 1 to 1.5 quarts. It's important cuz homemade ice cream is a lot of trouble. You have to cook the cream mixture, wait for it to cool, crank it, clean the machine. A waste for only one quart. The only problem was liquid leaking through the SPOUT. Though the plug helps, it is not tight enough and falls out easily.

I think you could actually remarket it as a good manual ice cream maker if you had a STAINLESS STEEL or insulated bowl that retains the cold when you remove it from the freezer a couple minutes for churning, and NO SPOUT. The bigger the better (though it might get hard to turn at some point).

I haven't used my E.G. for much else yet.
